What else did you expect? The last week of games in the ACC will feature the Tobacco Road rivalry. This game could be the deciding factor in the seeding for the ACC Tournament and NCAA.
We already know both teams don’t like each other (that might even be an understatement). Nevertheless, regardless of which team is ranked higher, these games are must watch TV. Last year, the Dukies and Tar Heels split the series, both teams winning at their respective home courts. What we should look for in this year’s game is how the incoming freshmen handle this highly anticipated rivalry.
Both teams have great incoming freshmen classes. A great matchup will be between two freshmen. Duke’s Justise Winslow and UNC’s Justin Jackson. They have opposing styles of plays, so it will be interesting to see which player is able to help his team get the win.
We expect Marcus Paige to perform like his usual self. But if Tyus Jones and Quinn Cook can limit and counter Paige’s production, who knows what will happen.
One thing to look out for is if Duke is able to defend the glass. Okafor and company will have their hands full. The Tar Heels will look to rebound for fast break opportunities and easy put-backs. With so many great matchups, this game has the potential to be another Tobacco Road classic.
If you’re a college hoops fan, what more can you ask for? Each week, there will be at least one game that will have viewers glued to the television. If the anticipation is as good as the actual games, we are in for one heck of an ACC season.
