2. 2007-08 (37-3, 13-3 Big 12)

I’ll admit it may be bizarre not to put a team that won a national championship as number one on this list, but it’s easy to forget that if a few more breaks go Memphis’ way in the 2008 National Championship game, and this team doesn’t win it all.

Regardless, this was still a fantastic team, that caught even more luck before the season even started when Brandon Rush, who had planned to go to the NBA, tore his ACL and elected to stay in school. Rush would of course go on to lead the team in scoring at a hair over 13 points per game, shoot 42 percent from three and would usually guard the opposing team’s best player every night.

Obviously, Rush didn’t do it all by himself. The balance of this team was incredible. Both Darrell Arthur and Mario Chalmers weren’t far behind at 12.8 points per game. Darnell Jackson averaged 11.2 points per game. Sixth man Sherron Collins averaged 9.3, and Russell Robinson and Sasha Kaun both averaged about seven per game (via sports-reference.com).

Thanks to a late-season loss at Oklahoma State, where Kansas never seems to play well, they finished in a tie for first with DJ Augustin and Texas.

Their first loss of the season came on the road to Kansas State, where Michael Beasley then declared: “We’re going to beat Kansas at home. We’re going to beat them at their house. We’re going to beat them in Africa. Wherever we play, we’re going to beat them.” (via bleacherreport.com).

Well, that didn’t exactly happen, with Kansas beating Kansas State 88-74 come March. Also, let’s never, ever forget this shot:
