NCAA Basketball: Sensational sophomores of 2016
7. Dwayne Bacon (Florida State)
Dwayne Bacon entered the 2015 season as one of the most highly touted freshman in the country, and he didn’t disappoint.
Bacon, a 6-foot-7, 210-pound shooting guard, averaged 15.8 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game as a freshman. He played 28.8 minutes per game in his first season with the Seminoles, and he scored 20 or more points 12 times.
While his counterpart Malik Beasley left for the NBA after just one year, Bacon chose to stay in Tallahassee for his second season. Much to the delight of Florida State fans, Bacon anchors an FSU team that also boasts one of the best freshman in the country in small forward Jonathan Isaac.
As good as Bacon’s statistical totals were last year, his shooting percentages were less than desirable. He shot only 44.7 percent from the floor and 28.1 percent from three-point range. He did however shoot a respectable 71.4 percent from the free-throw line.
If Bacon can become a more efficient shooter in year two, he’ll be a strong candidate for ACC Player of the Year.
