NCAA Basketball: Player of the Year power rankings (Edition eight)
4. De’Aaron Fox, Kentucky
It seems like I stress this every week but it truly needs to be drilled in when speaking about the Kentucky Wildcats. Malik Monk is by far the best scorer and offensive player on the Wildcats, however, De’Aaron Fox is their best all-around and most valuable player.
Fox is averaging 16.7 points, 6.3 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game while shooting 48 percent from the field overall and just 2.3 turnovers per game.
Those are great numbers for any player, but for a freshman that is leading one of the best teams in the nation, those tallies are outstanding.
On Tuesday night against Mississippi State, Monk battled inefficiency issues, Isaiah Briscoe struggled and Edrice ‘Bam’ Adebayo dealt with foul trouble. The Wildcats could’ve rolled over against an improving Bulldogs team on the road, but instead, Fox took over; he scored 21 points on 8-of-15 shooting, grabbed five rebounds and dished out five assists. If he improved his perimeter jump shot, Fox may be higher in these rankings.
