NCAA Basketball: Best Bets on Three Match Ups
Michigan State Spartans at No. 16 Purdue Boilermakers (-9)
A sneaky good Big Ten game on Saturday afternoon as both teams have much to play for from Mackey Arena in West Lafayette, IN.
For Michigan State, a road victory over the No. 16 Boilermakers would mean their best win of the season. They are on the bubble, but probably in right now, and a victory here would help solidify it. With games against Wisconsin and Maryland on the schedule, the young Spartans have plenty of opportunity to pull off upset victories. Saturday is another big chance as everyone comes down the home stretch.

The Boilermakers, aided by two recent losses from Wisconsin, are now in a three-way tie for first in the Big Ten (Maryland is also tied). The Terps and Badgers play on Sunday, so if Purdue wins they will have only one team tied. If the Boilermakers win out, they will have at least a share of the Big Ten title.
Game one between these two teams was a close affair for around 30 minutes before Purdue took control in the second half. Michigan State shot 51% from the field and over 40% from three, but was killed on the boards (23-36) and gave up equal shooting numbers to the Boilermakers.
I just do not see Michigan State’s bigs able to handle Caleb Swanigan and the rest of Purdue’s bigs. Swanigan destroyed the Spartans in East Lansing with 25 points and 17 rebounds in the first meeting. If he has close to those numbers again in a raucous home atmosphere? Michigan State better just warm up the buses.
However, if Michigan State can stay out of foul trouble and get someone other than Miles Bridges to step up (33 points in the first game), then there is a great chance at a cover.
I think it will be hard pressed to see the Spartans able to keep enough big bodies on the floor against the bruising Boilermakers. Take the Boilermakers here at home.
