Frank Martin, South Carolina

Frank Martin snapped South Carolina’s 13 year NCAA tournament drought and now has the Gamecocks in the Sweet 16 for the first time since 1973.

If you want to see an intense coach, watch Martin on the sideline. Martin is a defensive-minded coach whose teams play a tough, physical brand of basketball on that end. His teams typically struggle on the offensive end.

Martin has led the Gamecocks to back-to-back 20 win seasons for the first time since the program accomplished the feat four consecutive years under Dave Odom (2004-08). Martin has guided South Carolina to a 94-73 record in five seasons. He is 211-125 in 10 years as a head coach as he spent five years at Kansas State prior to landing in Columbia. Martin led KSU to the NCAA tournament four times, reaching the Elite Eight in 2010.
