St. John’s Red Storm

Record: 14-19 (7-11 Big East)

Postseason: No appearance

This was, even without a tournament appearance, a successful season by Saint John’s. They showed tremendous improvement after winning just one Big East game in 2015-16. Chris Mullin is molding a very fine roster and Saint John’s should be in good shape for the future.

Shamorie Ponds (17.4 points per game) and Marcus LoVett (15.9 points per game) were two of the freshman in the entire country and look to build on that success moving forward.

Although there were several great games from the Red Storm this season, their best win was at home against Butler in just their first game of the Big East season. It was a very solid all-around performance and their only top-25 win on the season.

Xavier Musketeers

Record: 24-14 (9-9 Big East)

Postseason: 11 seed in the NCAA Tournament, Elite Eight

Without a doubt, this was a successful season for Xavier because they made the Elite Eight. Although their regular season took a dive when Edmond Sumner went out for the season, they figured things out just in time to make a deep run in the NCAA Tournament, which they did.

Trevon Bluiett was the lead man for the Musketeers with 18.5 points per game with J.P. Macura finishing second at 14.4 points per game.

The most impressive win by Xavier this season was their win over Arizona in the Sweet 16. With that victory, they moved further in the NCAA Tournament than anybody else in the Big East. On the whole, it was a very successful year for the Musketeers.
