10. George Mason over UConn – 2006

After dethroning the defending champion North Carolina Tar Heels in the second round, the Patriots weren’t done yet. They went on to beat No. 7 seeded Wichita State in order to reach the Elite Eight, where they faced the No. 1 seeded UConn Huskies.

UConn reached as high as No. 2 in the AP Poll and entered with a record of 30-3. They took George Mason to overtime before falling to the Cinderella team. They weren’t able to slow down the magical season as a last second buzzer beater didn’t fall against the Patriots.

The Patriots reached No. 25 in the AP poll for one week but two late-season losses to Hofstra hurt the team’s resume. George Mason is one of three No. 11 seed teams to make the Final Four.
