5. Santa Clara vs. Arizona – 1993
The Broncos entered the Tournament with a 16-11 record, taking on the national power Wildcats who had a record of 24-3. Arizona had won 19 games in a row at one point during the season and reached as high as No. 5 in the AP poll.

Santa Clara had not won a tournament game in 23 years and struggled against big conference teams throughout the year. The Broncos went 0-6 playing teams from power conferences and had a losing record for most of the season. They won seven of eight games to end the regular season at just 13-11. They would go on to win three more games and the West Coast Conference Tournament to become eligible.
The Broncos got hot at the right time, winning 11 of their final 13 games. The Broncos defeated the Wildcats, 64-61, becoming just the second No. 15 seed to win a tournament game.
