College Basketball Recruiting: Predicting where the top uncommitted seniors will land
Five-star Power Forward Mohamed Bamba (Westtown School, NY)
247Sports Crystal Ball: 58% Kentucky; 32% Duke; 11% “Foggy”
Bamba, a 7-foot big man, is down to four schools: Duke, Kentucky, Michigan, and Texas. While the blue-bloods lead the way in his Crystal Ball, Bamba did take official visits to all the aforementioned schools. Michigan and Texas are certainly in the running, but the Crystal Ball says otherwise.
Bamba’s final official visit was February 26 to Durham. Very little progress has happened since, indicating that he is winding down in the recruiting process. No timetable is set for a decision, but could very well happen at any moment.
PREDICTION: Texas
Confidence Level: 20%
I may be going out on a limb here, but the Longhorns are a very underrated contender in Bamba’s recruitment. ESPN’s Adam Finkelstein stated back in November on ESPN’s Signing Day Special that he believed Texas was leading for Bamba. More recently, Corey Evans of Rivals agreed with Finklestein in an article published just a week ago.
Additionally, whether it matters to Bamba or not, Duke and Kentucky already have loaded front courts. The Blue Devils return big man Marques Bolden for next season and also add five-star power forward Wendell Carter. As for the Wildcats, five-star center Nick Richards, and five-star power forward P.J. Washington will join Lexington next season alongside returning pieces of Isaac Humphries and, most likely, Wenyen Gabriel.
