Missouri Basketball: Breaking down Tigers’ 2017 recruiting class
By Taylor Sturm
C.J. Roberts
Rated somewhere between a three or four-star recruit depending on which recruiting service you look at, Roberts made a smart decision to come to the Missouri Tigers from North Richland Hills High School in Richland, Texas.
At 6’2, 178-pounds, Roberts is a great size for a freshman point guard. His skill set is perfect for what this team needs in terms of ball delivery and being able to score when necessary. Roberts looks to be a player that could easily be coached into a defensive beast as well.
Although the decision by Blake Harris, who is next on this list, to commit to Missouri likely means that Roberts will not be the starting point guard, it would not surprise me if Cuonzo Martin tinkered with the lineup so that Roberts and Harris would both be on the court getting the ball to Missouri’s go-to player – No. 1 overall 2017 recruit Michael Porter Jr.
In fact, he might opt to try and turn one into a shooting guard if you look at some of the inconsistent veterans on the roster.
It should be noted that I believe Roberts is a long-term option at point guard for Missouri. Next year he probably will not see as much time as Harris but could easily be the go-to starter as early as the 2018-19 season. Keep an eye on him moving forward.
