Bruce Stevens

While another recruit – JaMarko Pickett – will likely take most of the attention heading into the 2017-18 college basketball season, JUCO transfer Bruce Stevens could be a huge part of this team next season.

Stevens, who played his JUCO ball with the Jones County Bobcats in Ellisville, Mississippi, is a 6’8, 250-pound power forward who was rated as a four-star prospect by 247 Sports. He received interest from the Georgetown Hoyas and Memphis Tigers but decided to stay in-state with the Rebels.

With the Bobcats, Stevens played in 31 games with 20 games scoring 15 or more points and 23 with 10 or more rebounds. This is great news because the Ole Miss frontcourt is missing scoring big men.

Andy Kennedy knew exactly what he was doing when he went out and snagged Stevens. There is a huge need at the forward position for the Rebels, and Stevens will play huge minutes this season whether as a starter or from off the bench. I believe that Kennedy’s team will run a bit small this season, meaning that Stevens could find himself spending some time at the five in games where the team needs to score a lot of points in order to win.
