Pac-12 Basketball: Who is the top 2017 recruit for every team?
By Bryan Mauro
UCLA
One of the most storied programs in college basketball history never has any trouble recruiting kids to come play there no matter who the coach is. Steve Alford has done a good job at UCLA despite scrutiny from many for his style of play, which does not usually involve much defense. He does however have the Pauley Pavilion, also known as the house John Wooden built, at his disposal for home games. A useful recruiting tool is that UCLA is the alma mater of greats like Russell Westbrook, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, and Bill Walton.
Kris Wilkes- The McDonald’s All-American wing is an explosive dunker and shot blocker. Kris was part of the Dunk Contest at the McDonalds All-America game. While he didn’t win, he did bring the crowd to its feet with some nice thunder dunks. Kris should be able to wreak havoc on Pac-12 defenses on both ends of the floor, and he loves to catch lobs and throw down dunks over defenders — so get your camera’s ready for the poster.
USC
The Trojans and Andy Enfield returned to the tournament last year. Most of that team is back and the Trojans actually got better with this incoming recruiting class. Coach Enfield and the Trojans look to gain some momentum and make a return trip to the tournament. USC is already an explosive and athletic team and should get better and more athletic with the following recruit.
Charles O’Bannon Jr.- Charles’ father is a former National Title winner with UCLA. The junior O’Bannon decided to take his talents to the Bruins arch rival, so this should add some extra added heat to this rivalry. Much like his father, Charles is a very bouncy and explosive player who loves to throw down thunder dunks. O’Bannon is also a very good passer for a big man and should look to distribute as well as score. Charles is a good jump shooter who can dribble through traffic and has good enough skills that he can sometimes be a pain to guard. If O’Bannon ends up being just like his father, USC is going to have a very good player who should help them gain the momentum they are seeking.
