Pac-12 Basketball: Ranking the top transfers in the conference
2. SF/PF MiKyle McIntosh, Oregon
The importance of adding MiKyle McIntosh cannot be overstated for Oregon. Junior wing Dillon Brooks left early for the NBA, but McIntosh will step in and fill the void left by Brooks. McIntosh was one of the top players on a very good Illinois State team and he should be one of the best transfers in the conference.
The 6’7″ grad transfer averaged 12.5ppg and 5.6 rpg for Illinois State and is also a very strong defender. Like Brooks, McIntosh can play both forward positions and his inside-out skill set is very valuable. McIntosh is not as good of a 3-point shooter as Brooks, but he shoots a respectable percentage (34.8%).
McIntosh’s positional versatility will allow Oregon to play different lineups. He mostly played on the perimeter for Illinois State, but he would be a matchup nightmare as a small-ball PF. At 234 pounds, he has the strength to compete inside as well as overpower smaller wings.
McIntosh’s interior scoring ability will provide a nice complement to Oregon’s bevy of perimeter scorers and should ensure him major minutes. Playing with quality guards who can create for their teammates like Troy Brown and Payton Pritchard will only help McIntosh. Expect McIntosh to split time between the forward positions and 11ppg and 6rpg seems like a very realistic estimate for his production.
