Sun Belt Basketball: Who are the stars for every team in 2017-18?
Coastal Carolina Chanticleers – SR Jaylen Shaw
Starting originally in South Carolina, Shaw ultimately was looking for consistent playing time. He transferred locally to the Chanticleers, where in nearly 30 minutes he averaged 11.1 ppg his sophomore year. The following season, he increased his scoring output to 14.3 ppg, which was good for 12th in the conference.
Despite playing roughly the same amount of minutes, Shaw increased not only his scoring but efficiency as well. His free throw shooting percentage increased from .65 to .81 and added another rebound per game.
The one stat Jaylen Shaw must improve on is his field goal percentage. Shooting 36% from the field total is a number he must improve on.
As a team, Coastal Carolina doesn’t do anything well nor terrible, averaging somewhere between sixth and tenth in almost all other important offensive and defensive categories. In order for the team to escape the bottom half of the standings this year, Shaw and company must do a little bit of everything better.
