Sun Belt Basketball: Who are the stars for every team in 2017-18?
Little Rock Trojans – SR Deondre Burns
Little Rock will lose the following players: Jalen Jackson, Kemy Osse, Maurius Hill, Lis Shoshi, and their leading scorer Marcus Johnson Jr. Not only were these seniors the top five scorers, they contributed over 70% of total rebounds and assists.
One of the only returning players who did anything meaningful last season for this team is rising senior Deondre Burns. In the minutes he received off the bench, he performed well in his role, scoring seven a game added a steal to go along with.
One thing going for the Trojans is that they were a top-tier defense in the conference, ranking in the top three in most categories. The hope for Little Rock is that those whose roles expand this season will not only continue the defensive intensity but provide better offensive production.
Finishing in the bottom three in team scoring was a big reason the school couldn’t finish higher than sixth despite the many vets on the roster.
Burns will be just one of many players taking on new roles for Little Rock next season. If he can take a drastic leap in his final year, then the Trojans can avoid the bottom this season. Of all the players coming in, Deondre Burns has shown the most capability of taking the lead role.
