Sun Belt Basketball: Who are the stars for every team in 2017-18?
Louisiana Monroe Warhawks – JR Travis Munnings
Very few things went right for the War Hawks last season, finishing last in the conference with just two wins and only nine in the total season. One good thing that did happen was the development of forward Travis Munnings.
The Freeport, Bahamas native raised his scoring average up five points to 13 and brings in eight boards a game, becoming the most consistent player on the roster last season.
Becoming a full-time starter in his sophomore campaign, Munnings expanded his range, going from 15 made threes to 51. His ability to play the small ball forward position with his rebounding ability allows for potential mismatches to be exploited.
In spite of the bad year ULM had, there is room for optimism. The team finished in the top four in scoring defense and return most of their roster. The two main issues to fix up are to not be dead last in scoring again and try to force some turnovers this season. Getting easy buckets is a great way to get out of any offensive funk going on.
It will take a lot of improvement from the offensive end to get out of the bottom, but more playmakers could mean a worlds difference for Louisiana Monroe. For that to happen, Munnings will have to be the catalyst for the change.look
