Key Bench Players

Kendal Manuel (Redshirt Sophomore)

After starting 25 games last year, Kendal Manuel will probably come off the bench this year with the addition of Ethan Thompson to the roster. However, if Thompson struggles to gain traction in the starting rotation, Manuel is well equipped to step in as the third guard. Despite averaging 7.8 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game last year, Manuel’s dismal .376 shooting percentage is why I give Thompson the slight edge heading into the season.

Gligorije Rakocevic (Junior)

After the injuries to Tres Tinkle and Cheikh N’Diaye, Beaver center Gligorije Rakocevic had to play a larger role than expected and started in 14 games. Rakocevic provides the Beavers with a bench player that can compete adequately in the paint. During his sophomore season, he averaged 4.6 points and 3.7 rebounds in just under 19 minutes per game.

Cheikh N’Diaye (Redshirt Senior)

Although Cheikh N’Diaye probably won’t be the first big man off the bench, he can provide coach Tinkle with an efficient interior presence. His role with Oregon State was supposed to increase last season before an early injury knocked him out for the year. Last season, N’Diaye started 8 of the 9 games he played in and put up a .522 shooting percentage.

Alfred Hollins (Freshman)

Last season, the Beavers offense was their main struggle, but their defense was not far behind, giving up 76.6 points in conference play. Coach Wayne Tinkle did a good job of addressing this issue by signing Alfred Hollins, one of the best defensive guards in the 2017 class. Hollins should provide decent depth at the guard position, and will probably be used heavily when a stout defense is needed.

Zach Reichle (Freshman)

The top recruit in the state of Oregon, Zach Reichle gives the Beavers many reasons to be optimistic. He is a two-time state Player of the Year and led his team to two straight state championships. Within the Oregon State team, Reichle will need to earn his minutes by showcasing his excellent shooting and tenacious defense.
