College Basketball: 5 mid-majors tremendously impacted by transfers
4. Western Kentucky Hilltoppers
After getting dismissed from Texas A&M, Rick Stansbury has taken his recruiting talents to the Hilltoppers of Western Kentucky. In his first season, he started out quickly by getting Que Johnson from Washington State and Pancake Thomas from Hartford.
It didn’t help much in his first year, finishing in the middle of the conference with a 15-17 record. However, this did little to stop the recruitment of high-level players including the crown jewel of big man Mitchell Robinson, a top-10 center from New Orleans, Louisiana.
Then, however, Robinson has decided to forgo his collegiate season and spend this year preparing for NBA Draft. Although this is a major blow, Stansbury went to the transfer market to find some possible gems:
Lamonte Bearden, Buffalo
Dwight Coleby, Kansas
Darius Thompson, Virginia
Jared Savage, Austin Peay (must sit out season)
Dwight Coleby is the key to this group, as he received minimum playing time at Kanas in his tenure there. He certainly has the skills and athleticism to do well and will get his shot in his final season.
Throw in 2018 verbal commit and top-50 recruit Josh Anderson and the Hilltoppers could be a mid-major threat for a few years.
