Key Reserves

SO Henry Welsh

The younger brother of UCLA center Thomas Welsh, Henry provides a couple of points and rebounds in his 12 minutes of action a game. As the biggest player on the roster, Welsh should have some reserve minutes coming in for Lewis.

JR Tommy McCarthy

The junior’s minutes and production have declined rapidly as more talented players have come down the pipeline. He averaged less than a point a game last year, but his playing experience will give him a chance at reserve minutes.

JR Weisner Perez

Another player who’s been buried in the depth chart, Perez’s big moment was his 15 point outing against the Kansas Jayhawks.

FR Rio Haskett

The only 2017 commit, Haskett continues Amaker’s successful recruiting streak. The three-star combo guard is likely the best guard off the bench right now and could be a sixth man of sorts.

SO Robert Baker

Another big man, Baker played less than ten minutes a night. He’ll battle with Welsh for backup frontcourt minutes.

While the bench currently doesn’t seem too vaunted, look for McCarthy and Perez to have bounce-back years. McCarthy’s 21 point performance against Cornell a couple of seasons ago shows he can play at the Division I level. If these guys can buy into their roles as bench players and provide both a spark and veteran leadership, then the struggles of two years ago can be used positively for this season.
