FBI Investigation makes headlines

Pearl was not the only Southeastern Conference basketball coach being grilled about the FBI probe or not answering questions, either. Kyle Tucker at SEC Country raised the issue with every coach. Tight-lipped responses to questions by South Carolina’s Frank Martin, Auburn’s Bruce Pearl, and Alabama Head Coach Avery Johnson were predictable. Other coaches had more to say. Here are some excerpts from Kyle Turner at SEC Country.

John Calipari, KentuckyFrank Martin, South CarolinaBruce Pearl, Auburn, “When I left campus today, they were all able to be in practice. That’s where we are right now.

Billy Kennedy, Texas A&M, “I was surprised that programs were involved where the head coach didn’t know anything about it.”

For Southeastern Conference basketball, the FBI probe appears limited at this time to the state of Alabama (although South Carolina fans can’t be sleeping well). Auburn assistant coach Chuck Person was arrested and indicted, and Alabama associate athletic director for men’s basketball Kobie Baker resigned after admitting to Alabama officials he was “Staff Member 1” in the FBI complaint (from AL.com’s Matt Zenit).

But there is an SEC basketball feel-good story.
