Starters

SR Jovan Mooring

The lone bright spot from last year, the former JC transfer led his team with 12.6 ppg and was second in the entire league in assists at 4.0 apg. The 6’2 guard won’t have to do as much this season, as the surrounding talent is vastly superior to last year’s. Still, it’s great to have a senior leader with a new cast of players coming in.

FR Amauri Hardy

Originally committed to Oklahoma State, the Rebels beat out Arkansas for Hardy’s talents. He’s a prolific scorer, averaging over 30 in his senior year of high school. The combo guard will also take over the ball-handling duties when Mooring needs to sit.

JR Kris Clyburn

The 6’6 forward averaged 7.3 ppg and 5.3 rpg and was one of the best offensive rebounders in the Mountain West. He’s the only wing with experience so he’ll likely get the nod. But with an overall talent upgrade on the roster, most of the returning player’s minutes aren’t safe.

JR Shakur Juiston

A five-star JUCO prospect, many believe Juiston was the best available. Even Kansas gave him an offer. The opportunity for immediate playing time was the biggest draw for him and will slide in perfectly at the four spot. He averaged 17.3 ppg and 12.1 rpg at Hutchinson Community College and has a chance to be an All-Conference performer for UNLV.

FR Brandon McCoy

While Juiston may have an impact for the next couple of seasons, McCoy is likely sticking around for just one year. 247 Sports has him ranked as the 14th best prospect for the class of 2017. He was part of the U-19 U.S. bronze medal team and surprisingly snubbed Oregon and Michigan State to stay close to home.

At seven foot and 250 pounds, McCoy has a chance to dominate the league both offensively and defensively. His high school averages of 29 ppg, 14 rpg, and 5 bpg are ridiculous and an indication of what’s to come. Even if it’s just for one year.
