West Virginia has work to do

The West Virginia Mountaineers entered the 2017-18 college basketball season with lofty expectations. Sure, they are probably not as good on paper as they have been recently, but his team is good, Bob Huggins is a great coach, and his system gives even the best team fits.

They opened the season against an extremely talented Texas A&M Aggies’ team that was missing two of its best players and were absolutely destroyed. The Aggies, who I’ve been high on all offseason, dominated the Mountaineers, but I think the win said more about the Aggies than WVU.

That being said, the near loss to Missouri will have West Virginia fans worried. With Michael Porter Jr. out for the season, Missouri were supposed to be bad, right? This team dominated the Mountaineers for 36 minutes or so before handing the game to WVU in an epic meltdown. West Virginia was extremely lucky to not have their second loss on the season.

The good news, however, is that West Virginia was missing a key player and will be able to bounce back pretty quickly. Although you might not want to believe it, there is a lot of young talent on the Missouri roster, and Cuonzo Martin is a coach whose teams tend to play up against superior opponents.
