Big Ten Basketball: Power ranking the conference (Nov. 26-Dec. 3)
The Iowa Hawkeyes have really been a disappointment this year. The Hawkeyes returned many key contributors from last year’s team, so expectations were relatively high going into the season.
However, the Hawkeyes have struggled early on in the season, going 4-5. They are really missing last year’s leading scorer, Peter Jok, who was their go-to scorer and key leader last season.
Iowa’s struggles continued this past week. The Hawkeyes were embarrassed at Virginia Tech in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge on Nov. 28, as they got blown out of the gym 79-55.
The Hawkeyes then followed this by dropping a tough decision at home against Penn State and another game to Indiana later in the week to start conference play.
This season, the Hawkeyes are led by 6’9″ junior forward Tyler Cook, who averages 15.2 points per game and 7.2 rebounds per game. Isaiah Moss holds an average of 13.8 points per game, while Jordan Bohannon averages 13.4 points per game. Bohannon, the point guard for the Hawkeyes, also averages 4.8 assists per game.
Schedule for this week:
- Iowa at Iowa State (4-2) on Dec. 7
- Southern (2-5) at Iowa on Dec. 10
