NCAA Basketball: 5 sleepers for the Final Four in San Antonio
3. Seton Hall Pirates
Another preseason darling, Seton Hall is still feeling the sting of a neutral site loss to Rhode Island. They’ve reeled off back-to-back wins over ranked foes, though, with Texas Tech and Louisville both falling at their hands.
Everything begins and ends with big man Angel Delgado. The only problem with that is that the senior has actually seen a dip in his numbers from his junior season. This season, he’s averaging 13.3 points and 9.3 rebounds per game.
Sophomore Myles Powell has answered the call, hitting nearly three triples per game. Senior Desi Rodriguez has also found creative ways to score, leading to an average of 20 points per game.
Seton Hall’s experience is what makes them such a threat for March. With seniors littering the roster, they don’t have to worry about trying to gel. They just need to play their game and keep opponents on their toes.
The Pirates will have to find some scoring, however. Their top four scorers average a combined 59.7 points per game. Nobody else averages even five points per game.
The imbalance is a problem that can be solved, with the team not scheduled to face another ranked opponent until January 20.
