Big Ten Basketball: Week 5 conference power rankings
The Wolverines drop a spot in this week’s power rankings largely due to the recent success of the Ohio State Buckeyes. After falling to the Buckeyes in Columbus, the Wolverines have since gone 2-0.
Michigan began the week defeating UCLA at home in OT behind Moritz Wagner’s 23 points. They then traveled to Texas and escaped with a 59-52 victory. These victories propelled them to No. 23 in the RPI rankings (CBS Sports).
There was large concern surrounding this game, as Wagner left in the second half with an ankle injury, allowing the Longhorns to go on a run. This is definitely something to keep an eye on moving forward.
Wagner has led the Wolverines so far, averaging 15.6 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. Kentucky transfer Charles Matthews follows closely behind, averaging 14.4 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. Senior guard Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman adds 10.3 points per game for the Wolverines.
Schedule for this week:
Michigan vs Detroit (4-6) in Detroit, MI on Dec. 16
