Big Ten Basketball: Power ranking the conference after week 6
The Wolverines remained unchanged in this week’s power rankings despite going 2-0 last week. The Wolverines are on the rise, and could easily be higher in the rankings if they hadn’t lost to Ohio State a few weeks ago. According to CBS Sports, the Wolverines currently have two RPI top-100 wins.
Last week, the Wolverines traveled to Texas to play the Longhorns, defeating them 59-52. This could have been an even bigger blowout if Michigan star Mo Wagner wouldn’t have gotten hurt.
Wagner was then sidelined Saturday as the Wolverines faced Detroit Mercy at Little Caesars Arena. Michigan won this game handily without him, 90-58. Charles Matthews led five players in double figures with 20 points. He also had 7 rebounds.
While Wagner’s ankle injury doesn’t seem too serious, it is definitely something to monitor in the coming weeks. He currently leads the team in both scoring (15.6 ppg) and rebounding (7.6 rpg). Matthews is second in these categories, contributing 14.8 points and 5.2 rebounds per game.
Schedule for this week:
Alabama A&M (0-11) at Michigan on Dec. 21
