Denver started out their week with a big win over Division II Mesa College. There was no greater illustration of the Pioneers’ dominance in that game than the fact that they played 14 different players in the game. Of those 14 players, 11 of them played 10 or more minutes in the 106-60 victory. David Amigo led the way with 24 points and seven rebounds. Denver then tried to bring that momentum into Vermillion as they faced South Dakota in their conference opener.

Though the game was competitive throughout, the Coyotes were able to power past the Pioneers in the end. Amigo was dominant again, scoring 17 points and grabbing eight rebounds. The 6-foot-10 big man shot 8-for-12 from the field in the loss. Efficiency has been the staple of Amigo’s game so far this season. The senior is currently shooting a scorching 57% from the field.

Now 0-1 in league play, the Pioneers will await Fort Wayne, who comes to town on Saturday. The Mastodons are never an easy opponent and given Denver’s struggles so far this year, it may be hard to gain momentum against Fort Wayne.
