Texas Tech is playing the best right now in the Big 12. After demolishing both schools from the state of Kansas, the Red Raiders is tied for first place in the league with a 3-0 record.

The first game came against Kansas, which turned into a statement win at Allen Fieldhouse. Chris Beard’s team was tougher throughout, winning the rebounding battle 44-29. The lead scorer for Texas Tech, Keenan Evans, shot just 4/16, but was buoyed by the freshmen duo Zhaire Smith and Jarrett Culver, who combined for 23 points off the bench. Norense Odiase was another solid contributor with 12 points and eight rebounds.

The game against Kansas State was over before it began, with the Red Raiders opening on a 20-4 run. Both teams scored 54 points after that, which made it an easy win. Evans was back to his usual self, with 27 points, but once again it was the bench that provided with extra scoring, with 34 points.

The second leading scorer from a year ago, Zach Smith, has been nursing an ankle injury for the better part of two months, and it’s clearly impacted his play. But he’s getting healthy by the day, and it’s showing on the court.

The only question left for this team is how will they perform when behind? I ask that because since the opening tip of conference play, the Red Raiders have yet to trail, even for a second.

If it wasn’t for the No. 1 team on this list beating another top-10 team, I would’ve had Texas Tech at the very top. But I suspect they’ll be there soon enough.
