Big 12 Basketball: Where are Trae Young and the Sooners ranked after the WVU loss?
The Cowboys might finish near the bottom of the standings when it’s all said and done, but each game they’re involved in should be a fun one. In the Oklahoma game, the Sooners controlled it throughout, but Oklahoma State did the best they could to prevent the blowout for as long as they could.
When the game was about to get out of hand early in the second half, Thomas Dziagwa came off the bench and provided a spark, nailing some threes and keeping the game within single digits. But Oklahoma State couldn’t get a stop of the team’s life depended on it, giving up 109 points to lose by 20.
But first-year head coach Mike Boyton was able to get his first win in the Big 12 with the win over Iowa State behind 24 points from Jeffrey Carroll and 20 from Kendall Smith. The Cyclones controlled the game in the second half, but a late run by the Cowboys prevented them from starting out 0-3.
Oklahoma State is still in contention for an at-large, and the Florida State win continues to look better each day. But in order to win games in this league, some level of defense is required. Haven’t seen that yet from this team.
