Duke basketball: 5 questions for the Blue Devils against Wake Forest
Can Grayson Allen get back to form?
When Grayson Allen had his career-high 37 points in the win over Michigan State in the Champions Classic, his name was submitted as a possible candidate for National Player of the Year.
However, an argument can be made that he’s not even an All-ACC player at the moment, struggling to score at a high level. He’s not awful, but in the past six games the senior is averaging 14.1 ppg, not good enough for a player this caliber.
Part of it has been that he’s taking a backseat to the freshmen which can be problematic. In three of the past six games, Allen has attempted less than 10 field goals a game, including going 3/9 in the loss at NC State.
If Duke is going to make a run at the Final Four and beyond, it will be because of the senior leader carrying them there. His overall numbers are consistent to his career stats, so it’s more about the volume of his shots. Even if the game becomes a blowout, Allen needs to always be in the double-digits in field goal attempts, so let’s see if that happens this Saturday.
