Zion Williamson – Small forward/power forward/center

One of the most celebrated high school recruits since LeBron James, Williamson has captured the eyes of everyone with his thunderous dunks and supreme athleticism. What makes him so fascinating is his size. He has the height of a wing at 6’6, but the weight of a center at 275 pounds.

I personally thought that the commitments of both Reddish and Barrett would keep the Blue Devils out of the running for his services, but clearly, this was not the case.

In terms of who he compares to in the NBA, I honestly don’t have an answer. The only player of his height in the center position whose had a productive pro career in the league was Chuck Hayes, who last played for the Rockets. But Williamson will clearly have the better career, no matter what position he plays.

Whether it’s in Spartanburg, the AAU circuit, or even Team USA basketball, he’s been a standout all the way. This kid is a matchup nightmare, who thrives in transition and when improvising on offense.

Where he fits on next year’s roster

There’s a clear need at the center position as Duke is perfectly fine at the other spots. But if the Blue Devils somehow sign a seven-footer in the coming months, Williamson can certainly slide into the forward spots, creating the biggest lineup imaginable.
