ACC Basketball: Midseason recap, awards, and observations
Third team All-ACC
JR Ky Bowman – Guard, Boston College
2017-18 stats: 16.5 ppg 6.9 rpg 4.9 apg
The do-it-all guard for the Eagles, Bowman was one assist shy of a 30-point triple-double. He’ll sometimes have an off shooting night, but a 6’1″ guard being one of the conference leaders in rebounding is very impressive.
JR Frank Howard – Guard, Syracuse
2017-18 stats: 15.2 ppg 3.4 rpg 5.4 apg
After going in and out of the starting lineup all last season, Howard has earned the coaching staff’s trust and has developed into one of the better playmakers in the league. His numbers have increased dramatically from the previous season.
SR Devon Hall – Wing/guard, Virginia
2017-18 stats: 12.7 ppg 4.3 rpg 3.1 apg
His per game averages don’t scream “All-ACC” but the advanced ones do, being the only one ranked in the top-10 in both offensive and defensive rating. He’s the top free throw shooter in the league and could be the best perimeter defender as well. And the eye test says so as well, as he seems to constantly make clutch shots and stops.
SO Dewan Huell – Forward, Miami
2017-18 stats: 13.5 ppg 6.9 rpg 0.5 apg
The Hurricanes offense can go through droughts as a team but the former McDonald’s All-American has excelled in his second season, leading the team in both points and rebounds. His two best games also have come against great bigs, winning the individual battle against both Bagley from Duke and Jordan Murphy of Minnesota.
SO Omer Yurtseven – Center, NC State
2017-18 stats: 13.8 ppg 6.9 rpg 0.6 apg
The sophomore for the Wolfpack has been a late addition, thanks to a few impressive games against ranked foes. He had a career-high 29 points versus Clemson, and a 16 and 13 double-double in the upset win over North Carolina. He’s really been playing well as of late, and those “lottery talks” might be coming back.
