Big East Bracketology

The latest edition of Busting Bracket’s Bracketology has been released, and the Big East has received seven bids, tied with the SEC for the second most of all the conferences.

For those who follow this league, seven is the maximum they can get, since Georgetown, DePaul and St. John’s are nowhere near close to getting an at-large bid. Even if the Hoyas did go .500 in conference play, their horrendous non-conference schedule doomed any hopes they would’ve had.

With that being said, here’s how the other teams stand when it comes to position for the NCAA tournament.

Marquette – 12 (Last 4 in)

The Golden Eagles are just barely in the dance, despite having just one quality win to this point (Seton Hall). There are no bad losses on the resume yet, but there’s four rpi bombs coming up on the schedule, including two with St. John’s. Five of the last seven regular season games are on the road, so it’s going to be a hard fight.

Providence – 9 (Impact of injuries)

The non-conference for the Friars had mixed results, but with so many injuries taking place with this team, it’ll be interesting to see how the Selection Committee judges this team. Beating Xavier is a huge lift for the team, and will play each of the other top teams at least one more time.

Butler – 8 (Just get to nine)

Once again, the Bulldogs had a great non-conference schedule, with that Ohio State win now surprisingly the best win to date. The reason why this team is approaching bubble status is due to the accumulating losses. To be clear, they avoid losing to any of the bottom three and they’re safe. But Butler should be aiming for a higher seed.
