Team Spotlight: West Virginia Mountaineers

West Virginia is one of the most inconsistent teams in the country. Earlier in the year, I thought that this team was going to be a fierce competitor for a No. 1 seed at the end of the season. Yet, they have slid down the seed lines over the past few weeks to land as a No. 5 seed this time around. In addition, if it was not for their win over Oklahoma on Feb. 5, they would be sitting a seed line lower than they are right now.

Jevon Carter is proving night in and night out that he is a guard that nobody wants to see in March but the rest of the team is not all that scary. The Mountaineers have dropped five of their last eight games, including a tough road loss to Iowa State. The Cyclones are not a terrible loss but they are still one of the only Big 12 teams not in consideration for the Big Dance.

While it is possible for West Virginia to move up several lines before Selection Sunday, they need to snag more signature wins. With their latest win over Oklahoma, the team might be back on the right track, especially with home games against TCU and Oklahoma State coming up next. If they can go 2-0 in those games, as they should, the Mountaineers could rise up a seed line or two by this time next week.
