College basketball: What would an NCAA All-Star Game Look Like?
By John Ryan
Point Guard
Team A: Keenan Evans (Texas Tech) and Trae Young (Oklahoma)
One of the most underrated players in the nation, Keenan Evans continues to lead Texas Tech during one of their best seasons in program history. He is a relentless perimeter defender who contributes more than his fair share on the offensive end. His excellent season came full-circle during Texas Tech’s latest big win against Oklahoma. He scored 26 points while out playing and frustrating Trae Young the entire night.
Luckily for Young, in this scenario he gets to team up with the senior point guard. While the freshman phenom has undergone some struggles over the past few weeks, it’s impossible to deny his talent, production, and value to his team. Trae Young continues to lead the nation in both points and assists per game, an incredibly difficult feat.
Team B: Jalen Brunson (Villanova) and Jevon Carter (West Virginia)
In each of his first three season’s at Villanova, Jalen Brunson has improved and welcomed an increased role. Now a junior, Brunson is right in the mix to be this year’s Wooden Award recipient. He is averaging 19.8 points and 4.7 assists through Villanova’s first 26 games, helping prepare his squad for another shot at a final-four run
Brunson will be joined by one of the best defenders in the nation, Jevon Carter. The Mountaineer’s leader has locked down opposing guards for all four years, largely due to relentless effort and dedication to that side of the ball. What has made Carter one of the best post guards in the country, however, is his progression on the offensive side of the ball. His scoring and playmaking abilities have increased incrementally during all four of his seasons, resulting in averages of 16.9 points and 6.8 assists per game this season.
