Giving Back to Chicago State Basketball Fans

Donation: $100,000

If you’ve sat through a Chicago State basketball game this year, you deserve a check. At 22 consecutive losses, the Chicago State Cougars currently have the longest losing streak in Division I college basketball. While it is the decision of the spectator to spend money on a ticket, I feel bad for the fans and players of the team.

The players aren’t giving great facilities and are being led by their interim athletic director who seems to be on the way out as well. Not to mention, Chicago State plays in the Western Athletic Conference for whatever reason, but I know that can’t be great for travel, scheduling and devoting time to your academics. The athletic department is in shambles and the fans and players deserve better. This money should be divided up between the fans and the players.

Jalen Hill and Cody Riley Shopping Spree

Donation: $100,000

Many college basketball fans, myself included, were shocked at the level of stupidity displayed by LiAngelo Ball, Jalen Hill, and Cody Riley during their alleged shoplifting incident in China this past fall. The trio of UCLA freshmen made a dumb decision and they are paying the price. LiAngelo Ball was pulled out of college by his father and it’s not looking like he’ll play ball at a higher level than UCLA.

Meanwhile, Hill and Riley will not play for UCLA this season. While I acknowledge the lack of judgment they showed while allegedly shoplifting, I do think there’s a level of hypocrisy in this situation. UCLA is making millions off of their basketball team, while these players make nothing. If the NCAA and UCLA were to pay their players, maybe Hill and Riley wouldn’t be shoplifting. In support of Hill and Riley during their lost season, I’d like to take them on a shopping spree, so they can ball out one time.
