Summit League Basketball: Player of the Year Rankings
1. Mike Daum – South Dakota State
I know I may have led you on, hinting at Daum not being at this top spot, but I am not insane. It is clear that Daum is far and away the Player of the Year in the Summit League. His 23.5 points and 9.9 rebounds per game are best in the conference. Not only that, Daum’s 681 total points is fifth best in the nation with his points per game mark is seventh best in the NCAA. Daum is not only the best player in the Summit League, but he is one of the best players in the entire country. It would be foolish to put him anywhere but number one.
The forward is shooting over 41 percent from both the field and from three, making him the most efficient scorer in the conference. He also has 10 games of 30 points or more this season, and in six of those contests he snared at least 12 rebounds. The man is a flat-out box score stuffer!
Next: 10 teams that could go deep into March
And the cherry on top? The Jackrabbits are Summit League regular season champions with a 24-6 overall record and a 12-1 Summit League mark. He is the best player on the best team, so he is more than deserving of his second straight Summit League Player of Year award.
Lastly, I will stress this little tidbit: Mike Daum is only a junior.
