Which will be a bigger factor in a potential Red Raiders win – defense or home court advantage?

When Texas Tech beat Kansas the first time, the biggest development from that game was that it came at Allen Fieldhouse. In the Bill Self era, the Jayhawks have never lost more than three home games in a season. It’s been the big reason why they’ve won 13 regular season titles in a row.

That hasn’t been the case this year, with Kansas already having lost six games at home. It’s been Texas Tech whose held down home court, having yet to lose a game in Lubbock. Credit goes to the fans, who have made it a hostile environment this season for opposing Big 12 teams.

It’s also had an impact on the defensive end for the team. On the season, the Red Raiders give up 63.1 ppg, good for eighth in the country. In Big 12 home games, they only give up 65.6 ppg. When considering the offensive firepower the conference has from top to bottom, it’s an incredibly impressive number.

To be clear, Texas Tech plays great defense regardless where they go. But it seems to go another level when at home. If Kansas wants to continue the program’s streak, they’ll have to do what no one’s done this season – win in Lubbock.
