4. Trae Young – Oklahoma
28.0 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 9.0 apg
Oh how the mighty have fallen. Once the overwhelming favorite to win the Player of the Year awards, Trae Young’s “struggles” in the Big 12 have caused him to fall on most lists. There is no doubt that Young is still one of the most valuable players in the nation, continuing to rank first in points and assists per game, but his turnover issues and efficiency have only gotten worse.
The biggest knock on Young is that the combination of size and athleticism have allowed coaches to put longer guards on him to throw him off his game. Despite this, Young has continued to find ways to produce points for a Oklahoma team that does not have much help behind him.
Young is impossible to ignore because of his nation leading production, but the fact the Oklahoma has lost 10 of their last 12 games has made the potential of seeing him play in the Big Dance increasingly unlikely.
