ACC Basketball: 3 reactions to All-ACC selections
2. Duke and North Carolina still own the ACC
Every year, it seems the ACC moves towards a more equitable dynamic among its members.
This year, the balance titled back towards the two powerhouses who have owned the conference for as long as anyone can remember.
Duke and North Carolina combine to make up 60% of the All-ACC First Team and a third of the All-ACC teams overall. Considering there are 15 teams in the conference, that’s an obscene level of dominance.
This is a step above last year. Justin Jackson and Luke Kennard made the First Team, while Joel Berry II and Jayson Tatum flanked the other teams. There was even less representation the year before, when Grayson Allen and Brice Johnson made the First Team, but only Brandon Ingram appeared on one of the other teams.
Duke and North Carolina continue to rack up star recruits on the trail every season, with the Blue Devils set to have a historic class next year. In other words, the balance may tip even further in favor of the conference’s blue bloods over the next few years.
There’s one hope in slowing those teams down, though, and it emanates from the best team in the conference….
