Oklahoma State Cowboys

Upset the Jayhawks once, and heads turn. Upset the Jayhawks twice, more heads turn, Bill Self calls out his team, and a tournament at large berth is still in your grasp. The Oklahoma State Cowboys discovered this when they pulled the unlikely upset of Kansas on Saturday.

Kendall Smith’s 25 points were more than enough as the Cowboys ended up on top 82-64. The 18 point victory certainly gives the committee something to chew on heading into conference tournament play.

Since the win only got the Cowboys into the First Four out according to Lunardi, the most important games are still ahead. It is safe to say that Oklahoma State, the eight seed in the Big 12 tournament, needs to defeat ninth seeded Oklahoma on Wednesday. After that, they would run into top seeded Kansas on Thursday after less than 24 hours to recover.

A strong showing in this game could be enough, even if they don’t beat the Jayhawks for a remarkable third time this season. Either way, it will also depend on other results of course, but this weekend was a major step in the right direction for the Cowboys.
