Syracuse Orange

Just when it looked as if all hope was lost for New York’s College Team, the Orange pulled through on Saturday in front of a sold out Carrier Dome when they were most desperate. 18th ranked Clemson struggled all afternoon shooting from the field, and very nearly banked in a half court attempt at the buzzer which would have sent the game to an extra frame. Instead, Syracuse did just enough offensively to edge Clemson by a final of 55-52, re-entering them into tournament consideration.

Like Oklahoma State, the general consensus is that they will need to make some noise in their conference tournament to find themselves in as an at large. The road ahead appears extremely difficult. The first round game in the ACC tournament on Tuesday night against 14th seeded Wake Forest is an absolute must win.

After that, the 11th seeded Orangemen would play sixth seeded North Carolina, a very unfavorable matchup. Since a win against Wake Forest won’t buy them much, Syracuse may just need to pull the upset against the Tar Heels after all. But since they were able to win Saturday, they ended their two game losing streak and put themselves back into consideration without needing to win the entire ACC tournament.
