Arizona Basketball: Keys to success versus Buffalo
Supporting Cast
Allonzo Trier is an overqualified supporting player as he has been an all-conference performer in Tucson. However, such is life when you have a teammate like Ayton. Trier is a dynamic scorer (18.4 ppg) and can also create for teammates (3.3 apg). His abilities to slash to the basket and knock down threes make him a problem for Buffalo.
Trier’s backcourt mates are solid contributors as well. Rawle Alkins is an electrifying athlete that impacts the game on both ends. Alkins offers scoring punch (13.4 ppg) and is also the Wildcats’ best perimeter defender with his size and toughness. Parker Jackson-Cartwright is the team’s best outside shooter (42.2 3P%) and leading assist man (4.6).
Dusan Ristic is a great complement to Ayton in the Wildcats’ frontcourt. The senior big man is a dependable scorer (12.1 ppg) and can stretch out to mid-range. Ristic will have plenty of opportunities to shine with Buffalo’s defense doubling Ayton.
The Wildcats’ bench also has potential difference makers on their bench, even if they have not done so to this point. Sophomore guard Dylan Smith has shown flashes of his scoring potential with four double-figure performances this season. Freshman guard Emmanuel Akot has not played much this season, but could be a fascinating bench player for the Wildcats with his length and shooting ability.
Next: Best bets to win the title
All in all, the Wildcats will be a nightmare for the Bulls if they play at their peak level. Furthermore, they will be a nightmare for everyone in the South Region.
