Gonzaga Basketball: Five pros and cons of picking the Zags to another Final Four

Why They Will: Josh Perkins

Over the past two months or so, junior guard Josh Perkins has really embraced a role that the Zags desperately needed him to fill. Perkins, who was considered by many to be better playing off the ball, has finally become the experienced point guard that Gonzaga needed to make a run in the NCAA Tournament.

His transformation into the Zags leader and definitive point guard, peak in the WCC Tournament, where Perkins averaged 7.3 assists per game to just 6 shot attempts. While he still has the ability to be aggressive scoring with the ball in his hands, he has matured to the point of putting the team first.

If Gonzaga is going to make any sort of run at the Final Four, Perkins will be crucial in setting the table for the other scorers on the team. His leadership is valuable, as he is one of just two returning starters from last year’s Final Four team, and if he can continue limiting his turnovers, Gonzaga will have one of the better point guards in the field.
