March Madness: Ranking the remaining teams of the East Region
1. Villanova Wildcats (1 seed)
Strength: Balance and shooting
The only team in the country to have six players averaging double figures, the Wildcats are the top offensive juggernaut in the country. In the first two games, they’ve been one of the dominant teams, hitting 31 three-pointers.
Against Alabama in the Round of 32, Donte DiVincenzo, the team’s sixth man, went off for 18 points and five made three-pointers. As a team, they made a normally good Crimson Tide defense look helpless guarding them.
Arguably the best player in the country Jalen Brunson had a pedestrian game by his standards with 12 points, but it didn’t matter as Mikal Bridges stepped in with 23 points on 5/8 shooting from deep. Multiple players from this team have to have a bad game in order for their opponent to have a real shot.
Weakness: Possible reaction to new defenses
The next best defense in the Big East might be Providence or Butler, but none of them can compare to West Virginia and Texas Tech who are still alive in the East Region.
Next: Ranking the Sweet Sixteen teams
These teams play with an aggressive style that the Wildcats would be unfamiliar with, and if the pressure gets to them it could be interesting. Outside of that, there aren’t many flaws with Villanova.
