March Madness: Top players from the Elite 8 teams
Texas Tech Red Raiders
SR Keenan Evans, Guard
2017-18 stats: 17.8 ppg 3.1 rpg 3.1 apg
In all three games of the tournament, Evans looked close to awful. In the second half, however, he looked like the best player in the country. All three games were close, but it was the star guard for the Red Raiders that led the team to victory, on both the offensive and defensive ends of the court.
Because of the other senior guards in the Big 12, as well as a star freshman, Evans hasn’t gotten his just due. But he has now led Texas Tech to a place the basketball program has never been – the Elite Eight.
Villanova Wildcats
JR Jalen Brunson, Guard
2017-18 stats: 19.1 ppg 3.1 rpg 4.7 apg
When talking about who the best player in college basketball is, the point guard for Villanova always is one of the first to come to mind. And a big part of it has been his day-to-day consistency. He just doesn’t have bad games and comes up big when the Wildcats need him. He scored 27 points in the Sweet Sixteen victory over West Virginia and is the likely Wooden Award winner. His talent is undeniable, but his basketball IQ might be even higher.
