Michigan vs. Florida State: NCAA Tournament game preview, schedule and prediction
Coaching Legacy
What a win would mean for Leonard Hamilton of Florida State
In the 30 years of coaching at this level, Hamilton has been a successful overall coach. But at Florida State, he’s been the best coach they’ve ever had. He’s been there since the 2002-03 season but has yet to gain the level of respect he probably deserved.
Hamilton has developed a reputation for underachieving, particularly with last year’s team filled with future NBA pros. They didn’t play as hard as this year’s team, who lack talent but make up for it with toughness and depth. A win here will drown out the criticisms from before, and while not have him with the Boeheim’s Bennetts and Coach Ks of the world, he’ll get his due.
What a win would mean for John Beilein of Michigan
The Wolverines coach already has a Final Four appearance from the 2012-13 season and is considered one of the best in the business. His reputation is rather pristine, keeping Michigan on par with rival Michigan State in the Big Ten, with much lower recruiting rankings than the Spartans.
Beilein is already on the path to the Hall-of-Fame, but another Final Four clinches it. His name will not be a part of the second-tier of coaches anymore, but rather with the truly elite ones. And considering that the path to the title game involves nothing higher than a nine seed, it’s looking good for him.
