NCAA Basketball: 10 best transfers from the 2017-18 season
JR Jalen Hudson – Florida Gators
2017-18 stats: 15.5 ppg 3.9 rpg 1.1 apg
Similar to Freeman from NC State, Hudson saw the writing on the wall when it came to his place on the totem pole with Virginia Tech. He ended up going to Florida, who was in need of some instant offense.
From the very beginning of the season, Hudson showed that was going to be the top scorer for the Gators, averaging around 20 points in the first month of the season. But the game that he’ll be remembered for most is his 35 point game in the PK80 semifinals against Gonzaga, where he made eight three-pointers in the double-overtime win. His 24 points and 10 rebounds in the following game versus Duke wasn’t a bad followup either.
Throughout the season, Hudson tended to be hot and cold, with as many 20+ point games as there were single-digit games. But when needed, he showed up most, including scoring 49 combined points in back-to-back wins over Alabama and Kentucky.
Florida will be losing a ton of talent next season, and if he comes back, Hudson is the undisputed top player for the 2017-18 season. The goal will be for him to keep his efficiency while upping his scoring production even more.
