SO Harry Froling – Marquette Golden Eagles

2017-18 stats: 2.8 ppg 3.0 rpg 1.0 apg

One of the more risky areas of recruitment has always been international players because there’s an expectation of them to play. It’s not to say that these guys are entitled, but rather that they’re very willing to go pro early and play overseas if things don’t work out in the states.

That’s the case of the former Austrailian four-star recruit, who midway through last season transferred from SMU after just games coming off the bench. He went to Marquette looking for an increased role.

But here’s the problem. Unless you’re a bona-fide star, it’s hard to come into a rotation in the middle of the season. In the 20 games he played for the Golden Eagles, he scored just a couple of points a game while playing even fewer minutes.

The reality is Froling isn’t a high major player, or he would’ve been if he stayed with a program longer than a few months. Either way, he’s already decided that he’ll go back home to Australia and play professionally there.

It’s unfortunate for Marquette because they basically wasted a scholarship that would’ve gone to a better impact player. Same thing for SMU.
